World Cup 2019: Mohammad Azharuddin feels Virat Kohli is saving his best for tournament
He also pointed out why nothing but the championship success is an acceptable result.
Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin, who captained the Indian team in 1992, 1996 and 1999 World Cups, believes that the Indian team, led by Virat Kohli will bring the World Cup home this time. The Indian team will open their campaign on June 5 against South Africa at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
The Indian squad under the leadership of Virat Kohli will depart for the mega event on May 22 and will get to play a couple of warm-up matches leading into the World Cup. This team is possibly the best they could choose despite all the dispute over Ambati Rayudu and Rishabh Pant’s selection. Azharuddin feels that anything less than the championship for this team should be considered as a massive disappointment.
India has a good and balanced team for the tournament
“I would be disappointed if India doesn’t win the World Cup and I’m hoping that we will bring the Cup. India has a very good chance (in the World Cup) because we have got a very balanced side,” Azharuddin was quoted as saying by Timesnownews.
The Hyderabadi emphasized that the Indian team has one of the best fielding sides in the tournament, which is backed by some outstanding batting and excellence with the ball in the death overs. India has three of the best fast bowlers in the world, coupled with two wrist spinners who have picked wickets in limited-overs everywhere from South Africa, to England, to Australia.
Apart from this, Azhar also pointed out that the Men in blue have one of the all-time greatest ODI batsmen in their ranks in skipper Virat Kohli. “We have got good bowlers, good batsmen and then our fielding is very good (and has) improved a lot over a period of time. Ups and downs happen in life. But looking at his records and statistics, there is no need to worry. I feel he (Kohli) would have saved his best for the World Cup,” Azhar concluded.
