World Cup 2019: Nasser Hussain chooses his players to watch out for in tournament

Cricket pundits and experts have started picking their favourites and are predicting the players that might come forth and shine during the ICC World Cup 2019. The tournament will see many players making their debuts and some players who might be playing their final event at the global stage. These players know the value of performing at this level in front of millions and millions of viewers both live and watching on the TV.

Even ex-cricketers are bringing out their pads and pens and jotting down their list of players to watch out for in the upcoming ICC event that beings from May 30 and will end on July 14. One such former player is Nasser Hussain, the former England player, who led the Lions in the 2003 ICC World Cup. Hussain has been following the game very closely and he has gone on to choose six different players who can write their names in golden ink by performing amazingly in the World Cup.

Hussain names his six players to watch out for in World Cup

Nasser Hussain has picked Indian skipper Virat Kohli, Black Caps leader Kane Williamson, the Universe Boss Chris Gayle, and Andre Russell to shine throughout the tournament. Apart from these four players, Hussain also named Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan as well.

“I think Gayle will want to do something very special. Russell has been out of the West Indies set up but is a fantastic player. Rashid Khan from Afghanistan is one of the best white-ball bowlers in the world. Another top bowler is Bumrah – he absolutely nails his yorkers and death bowling will be key throughout the tournament. Kane Williamson, that quiet, smiling assassin from New Zealand… he always scores runs. And the greatest player in the world is in town in Virat Kohli,“ Hussain was quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

Hussain further went on to mention that teams in the tournament will have to be mentally ready for facing some setbacks and upsets at the hands of teams like Afghanistan and West Indies, both of whom qualified for the tournament via World Cup qualifiers. However, he pegged hosts England to go through to the knockout stages confidently and mentioned, “England will go into the tournament knowing they have to be good throughout. Make sure you get the points in the bag. They will get through to the knockout stages I think. But then it’s a one-off game and anyone can beat anyone. England’s recent record is phenomenal though and they will be confident.”
