World Cup 2019: Prize pot worth $10 million to be rewarded to winners

Most teams will have something to take back from the ICC mega event.

The World Cup 2019 is less than a fortnight away and the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced that total prize money that will be rewarded at the end of the tournament. As the game has advanced in the last few years and with that, the ICC’s pockets have got deeper thus the amount to be handed over this time is the highest ever in history.

ICC announced, on May 17, that the champion team of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2019 will be rewarded four million dollars (INR 28.04 crore), the highest prize money till date. It also includes other rewards that will be given to the runners-up and the semifinalists. The rewards for every winner of league stage games and the teams that pass the league stage has also been declared.

Detailed rewards list:

The World Cup kicks off on May 30, with England taking on South Africa. While the overall prize money sums up to 10 million dollars (INR 70.11 crore), the 46-day long competition will see incentives being distributed to the winners of every match that will be played across 11 venues between the 10 teams.

The runners up of the tournament will be granted two million dollars (INR 14.02 crore), while the losing semifinalists are assured of 0.80 million dollars (INR 5.60 crore) each.

Winner of Each League Stage Match: $40,000

Teams that do pass the League Stage: $100,000

Currently, the teams are all geared up for their one last preparation stage right ahead of the start of the World Cup. The hosts England are playing a 5-match ODI series against Pakistan and are leading by 2-0 after completion of three games. Meanwhile, Australia have defeated the touring New Zealand XI side by 2-1 in the three-match practice venture that took place in Brisbane last week.

Unfortunately for New Zealand, their ace batsman Tom Latham incurred an injury in the third warm-up game and is doubtful to play in the Black Caps’ tournament opener on June 1. Meanwhile, some other teams have also faced the injury blow such as it seems like India will have to drop Kedar Jadhav due to a shoulder injury, and Australia have already replaced the injured Jhye Richardson with Kane Richardson.
