World Cup 2019: Team India's travel plans disturbed with Jet Airways suspending its flights
May 22 is the team's official departure date.
A couple of days ago, Jet Airways suspended all its flights due to the cashflow crunch and the passengers who had booked tickets beforehand have suffered. Among all, even the Indian team is suffering as the BCCI had booked their tickets to travel to England on May 22 for the upcoming World Cup. May 22 is the Indian team’s official departure date even as BCCI is now looking for other airlines to make sure that the plans aren’t disturbed.
“It’s a challenge but we are addressing it. The team will leave as planned on or before May 22,” the BCCI official said while speaking to Mumbai Mirror. Apparently, the Indian board is looking for 30 business class berths to accommodate the whole squad which is tough as the demands are increased for all the airlines with the cancellation of Jet aircraft.
BCCI in talks with Emirates
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Mirror has also reported that the BCCI is in talks with Emirates who are also sponsors of the World Cup and Virgin Airways. Team India had flown in the Virgin airways itself last time around when the Men in Blue travelled England last summer.
While a few of the support staff members could be adjusted to a different class, the requirement of the business class berths still counts up to 25. BCCI has also planned to send four extra pacers with the team which has increased the need for berths. Even the IPL teams are suffering as Jet Airways used to accommodate extra luggage for bulk bookings, the teams are now facing financial and logistical issues both.
BCCI though looks confident of Team India’s travel plans not getting disturbed and they can’t even delay their departure with the team’s first warm-up fixture scheduled to be played on May 25 against New Zealand.
