World Cup 2019: Team management's advice to India's 15-man squad ahead of the tournament
Team India players will assemble in Mumbai on May 21 before leaving for England the very next day.
All the teams are gearing up for the upcoming World Cup which is set to get underway on May 30. While some are busy playing bilateral series in and around England, few teams have started a preparatory camp in the country to get hold of the conditions. But Team India is doing none of these things and will rather leave for England only on May 22.
All the players are currently on a break after being part of the hectic Indian Premier League (IPL) which comprised of 60 matches in just one and a half month. While the likes of Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni and Jasprit Bumrah were playing the final which took place on May 12, Virat Kohli and other World Cup-bound players’ teams were knocked out earlier.
No wonder all the players must have been extremely tired after playing 14 matches and needed some time off the game before coming together for the ICC showpiece event. Though many might argue about the Men in Blue not having any camps before going to a tournament like the World Cup.
However, according to the reports in Times of India, the team management has adviced all the players to just ‘relax’ ahead of the quadrennial event.
Come back in a good frame of mind
“The players have been told that they can take a break from training after the IPL. They can rest, have fun with their close ones and come back in a good frame of mind,” the source close to the team management said. India’s World Cup squad will assemble in Mumbai on May 21 and will leave for England the very next day.
“The support staff of the Indian team initiated this move. There were talks of having a short camp before the team leaves. But it will be very unfair on the players to get into the gruelling tournament like the IPL. So, it was decided that the players rather go on a break, ideally a short vacation, so that they feel good about themselves. We can’t risk any burnout,” the source further added.
Few of India’s top players are enjoying the small break as well. While Rohit Sharma has flown to the Maldives with his family, Virat Kohli is in Prague at the moment. It has been learnt that the leggie Yuzvendra Chahal is spending some quality time in Goa. They are expected to be back home on Sunday.
