After a lot of speculations, India’s away jersey for their crunch match against Eoin Morgan’s England on May 30 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham has been released. A number of replicas did the rounds on social media over the last few days, but it was only on Friday, May 28 that the doubts were put to rest. Virat Kohli, the 30-year-old India skipper, attended a press conference ahead of their crucial encounter.

Meanwhile, the Delhi-born Virat was a part of a hilarious incident. After the media interaction, Kohli posed with the new jersey, displaying the back side bearing ‘Virat 18’ and ‘One Day 4 Children’, a UNICEF initiative for children, which the ICC Cricket World Cup has tied up with. After displaying the jersey, Virat said “Aisa laga raha hai sukhane laya hu (Feels like I have got the jersey to dry up).

India’s jaw-dropping run

India has made an incredible start to the mega event. The Kohli-led unit is currently placed second in the points table with 11 points from six matches, their match versus New Zealand being washed off. They are the only unbeaten team in the tournament and don’t seem to stop anytime soon. Barring the match against Afghanistan, India has been a thoroughly dominant force with a Net Run Rate of +1.160, the best among all the teams.

In their last match, Kohli’s men defeated the Jason Holder-led Windies by 125 runs at the Old Trafford in Manchester. If they manage to beat England then the triumph would take them to the semis with one match left against Mashrafe Mortaza’s Bangladesh on June 2. India has its issues in the middle order, but those problems haven’t turned detrimental in their journey by any stretch of the imagination.

Mohammed Shami was picked ahead of an injured Bhuvneshwar Kumar and even that move worked out well. In the match against Afghanistan, Shami became the second Indian after Chetan Sharma with a World Cup hat-trick. India was being deemed as one of the favourites and they have played like one. As far as Kohli is concerned, he is in good form, having scored four consecutive half-centuries.
