Would love to face Jasprit Bumrah in the IPL: Priyam Garg
The Sunrisers Hyderabad picked Garg in the IPL auction for INR 1.9 crore.
Priyam Garg, the young Indian talent, wishes to face Jasprit Bumrah in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 19-year-old was recently the skipper of the India U19 team that lost to Bangladesh in the World Cup final in South Africa. He didn’t have the best of tournament as he managed only 68 runs at 22.66. However, by then, he had already gotten the IPL contract.
After some sterling shows in the domestic circuit, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) roped him in at a price of INR 1.9 crore. As far as Bumrah is concerned, he has been a stalwart for the Mumbai Indians (MI) for the last few seasons owing to which the team has won the title quite a few times.
Bumrah’s a great bowler: Priyam Garg
Priyam finds his yorkers deadly prospects and reckons that playing against the speedster can help him improve his batting prowess. The Meerut-born Garg put forth his opinions during a live chat session on the Helo App when asked about his tactics to face gun bowlers in the IPL.
“I don’t see who the bowler is, what is his world ranking. I take it as an opportunity to improve myself. However, I would love to face Jasprit Bumrah, he’s a great bowler and bowls brilliant yorkers. Playing against him will help me improve my game,” Garg was quoted as saying.
Being picked by SRH means that he would get to rub shoulders with the likes of Jonny Bairstow, David Warner and Kane Williamson. Garg is not only looking forward to interacting with them, but also expressed his desire to bat at number four in the lineup.
“I will get a chance to share a dressing room and share the experience so many big foreign players. It will be a great experience for me. I don’t know when I’ll get a chance to bat and on which position for that is the team’s decision. But I would love to bat at No. 4,” the youngster stated.
Moreover, Garg named Sachin Tendulkar as his favourite player and also had words of praises for Rahul Dravid. “My favourite cricketer is Sachin Tendulkar. I haven’t yet met him. Also, I have learnt a lot from Rahul Dravid sir. He’s an idol for every young player in terms of discipline, hard work, positive attitude, etc,” Garg added.
