Gujarat Giants Women (GG-W) finally ended their four-match losing streak in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 with a 19-run win over Royal Challengers Bangalore Women in Match 13 on Wednesday, March 06 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Gujarat captain Beth Mooney vindicated her decision with a scintillating knock of 85* (51).

She was well supported by Laura Wolvaardt (76 off 45) as the duo helped their side post 199/5 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, RCB could only reach 180/8 in their 20 overs with Georgia Wareham top-scoring with 48 (22). As a result, the Smriti Mandhana-led side lost their third game of the season.

1. Wolvaardt and Mooney’s sensational start

Gujarat captain walked to the middle eager to make a statement as she came out with a clear intent with her partner Laura Wolvaardt. The duo left RCB bowlers scratching their heads with their massive 140-run stand off 78 balls. Wolvaardt went on to score 76 (45) with the help of 13 fours while Mooney scored 85* (51) clobbering 12 fours and a six.

2. Tanuja Kanwar breaks crucial stand for RCB

With the score on 42/2 after 6.2 overs, Ellyse Perry (24 off 23) and Sophie Devine (23 off 16) tried to stabilize the innings with their 34-run stand off 23 balls. However, just before they could shift gears, left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar shattered Devine’s stumps to get the crucial breakthrough for her side.

3. Georgia Wareham fights till the end for RCB

Wareham walked to the crease with RCB in all sorts of trouble at 96/4 after 13.1 overs. The right-hander played a brilliant counter-attacking knock of 48 (22) clobbering six fours and two sixes before she was unfortunately run out in the 19th over.
