Most Wickets in WPL 2024 (WPL Purple Cap List 2024)
The much-anticipated inaugural edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) started in 2023. It became a huge success as fans were treated to intense cricket from renowned players worldwide. Also, several young players who got to rub shoulders with some of the finest players in world cricket, excelled during the league.
The second season promises to be another riveting affair as teams would have understood the league dynamics better and will be eager to get hold of the prestigious title, which was won by the Mumbai Indians last year. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. lifted the trophy after beating Delhi Capitals in the final at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai by seven wickets.
The upcoming edition of the league gets underway on Friday, February 23, with Mumbai Indians crossing swords with Delhi Capitals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Like in the IPL, the highest wicket-taker in the tournament is awarded the Purple Cap. Last year, Hayley Matthews, who represented Mumbai Indians, was the leading wicket-taker as she bagged 16 wickets in ten games at an average of 12.62 and a strike rate of 12.75. She also had a miserly economy rate of 5.94. Sophia Ecclestone also picked up 16 wickets but Matthews won the Purple Cap because she had a better bowling average. It will be interesting to see who wins the coveted cap in the 2024 edition of the tournament.
Rules for WPL 2024 Purple Cap
2. The bowler with the most wickets in the tournament during the season is allowed to wear the Cap in the field.
3. In an event of a tie, the Purple Cap is awarded to the bowler with a better economy rate.
