Wriddhiman Saha pessimistic about his chances of playing Afghanistan Test
"To be honest, I might not be fit for that game. It’s not in my hands," Saha remarked.
Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha did not have a very good outing in the recently concluded edition of the IPL. Saha, who played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, had a very poor season with the bat. To worsen things for him, the Bengal lad got injured during the playoffs. As a result, he did not take the field in the Qualifier 2 for the Sunrisers. Now, there seems to be no good development in his recovery from the injury.
Team India is all set to host Afghanistan in a historic first Test for the latter. As per the recent quotes in Times of India, Wriddhiman Saha was asked if he would be fit to play the match. A very modest and honest Saha remarked that the final call is in the hands of the doctors.
The doctors will take a call next week. It is worth noting that the players of team India will undergo fitness tests next week. Commenting further on the same note, Saha admitted that he is not very optimistic of making it to the Afghanistan test. He noted that it is not in his hands and the doctors will decide the best course of action for him.
“I don’t know the exact situation, so I cannot comment on whether I would be taking part in the Afghanistan Test. The BCCI doctor will have the final say. The doctor will take a call next week,” Wriddhiman Saha quoted.
“The BCCI is keeping a track of my injury on a day-to-day basis. The decision lies with them. To be honest, I might not be fit for that game. It’s not in my hands,” Saha remarked.
On a poor IPL season
Wriddhiman Saha also reflected back at the poor IPL season that he had. He admitted that he could not execute his plans well. He, however, added that the Test cricket is a different ball game altogether and hence, his poor form in IPL cannot give out any indications about his form in the longest format.
“I couldn’t bat the way I wanted to in the IPL. But Test and T20 are different ball games. I hope to do well in the longer version. Every match is difficult. When you play at home, there is actually more pressure. Nobody expects us to lose a Test match at home,” he conceded.
