Chairman of selectors MSK Prasad has perhaps become the public enemy number one after his comments on MS Dhoni. For quite some time now, there was no update on Dhoni regarding his future. The former India skipper has not played a competitive game since the semifinal loss to New Zealand in the World Cup in July. Speculations were rife that he would bring down curtains on his career at the end of the World Cup.
But Dhoni decided against it and instead took a break from the game which has not ended yet. He missed the tour of West Indies as well as the home T20I series against South Africa. Earlier this week, the selectors snubbed him for the forthcoming T20I series against Bangladesh at home. After announcing the squads, MSK Prasad had delivered a big update on the wicketkeeper-batsman.
Prasad, who has not shied away from backing Dhoni in the last year or so, revealed the selectors’ plans. Prasad said that the selectors have now decided to move on from Dhoni and give opportunities to youngsters.
“We are moving on,” said Prasad as he made it clear that Dhoni is no more an automatic choice in the team. He further said that it all depends on Dhoni now as far as taking the next step is concerned. He also said that the selectors had talked to Dhoni and the veteran cricketer is also supporting the plan to try out youngsters.
“Going into domestic cricket, getting his touch back or thoughts about retirement, everything is purely his personal [decision],” Prasad said. “We’ve already laid the roadmap for the future, I’m sure you can see in the way we are selecting the teams. We definitely had a chat with Dhoni and he also endorses our view of backing youngsters.”
MSK Prasad faces heat
MSK Prasad might have said that Dhoni is endorsing the selectors’ views but it did not stop the player’s fans from roasting him. Furious with his comments, the Dhoni fans took to Twitter to slam Prasad. While some questioned his credibility, others asked the board to sack him quickly as the chief selector of the national team.
Here are some of the reactions
