'You can't tell everyone just go out and play your game' - Yuvraj Singh takes a dig at India head coach Ravi Shastri

Yuvraj Singh, after retiring from all forms of the game last year, has opened up a lot about the hardships he faced during the latter part of his career. He also took a dig at the selectors for the lack of communication. Even during the lockdown, he has resorted to Instagram live sessions with his former teammates and the media houses and has been expressing his views about the current team India set-up.

The southpaw has now taken a veiled dig at India head coach Ravi Shastri‘s famous ‘express yourself’ mantra. According to him, the advice doesn’t work with all the cricketers and the coaching staff should understand the same by now. He cited the example of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virender Sehwag stating that the latter is one who would benefit with such an approach but not India’s current number three in Tests.

He had recently expressed his concern about the lack of role models for the youngsters in the current Indian team apart from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Stressing on the same in a live Instagram session with Nikhil Naz, Yuvraj Singh said, “The current guys have no one to talk to and take advice. I don’t know if Ravi is doing it but maybe he has others things in his hand.

“Anyway, you can’t tell everyone just ‘go out and play your game, express yourself’, this approach may work with someone like Sehwag … but this will never work with Pujara … so these things the coaching staff need to realise.”

Yuvraj Singh questions Vikram Rathour’s ability

Moreover, Yuvraj Singh also questioned India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour‘s ability to handle the current generation players who prefer playing the T20s. Rathour has played only six Tests and seven ODIs for India. “He (Rathour) is my friend … do you think he can help players of this T20 generation? Has he played cricket at the level to help them?

“If I was the coach I’ll tell goodnight to (Jasprit) Bumrah at 9 pm and take Hardik (Pandya) out for a drink at 10 pm … that’s how you deal with different personalities,” he further added.
