‘You need to express yourself’ – Virender Sehwag names one thing that Team India can learn from England, New Zealand
India haven’t been able to lift an ICC title since their triumph in the 2013 Champions Trophy.
Team India endured a horrendous campaign in the T20 World Cup 2021 and got knocked out of the league stage. India’s failure was indeed astonishing as they were touted firm favourites to win the competition. However, the players couldn’t live up to the expectations as the inaugural-edition champions suffered humiliating defeats against Pakistan and New Zealand.
Needless to mention, the Virat Kohli-led side earned criticism from different corners for their below-par show. Notably, the Men in Blue haven’t been able to lift an ICC title since their triumph in the 2013 Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, England won the 2019 World Cup and qualified for the 2016 T20 World Cup final.
Speaking of New Zealand, they qualified for the finals in the last three ICC events – the 2021 T20 World Cup, World Test Championship, and the 2019 World Cup. Highlighting the same, a fan asked former Indian opener Virender Sehwag whether India need to learn anything from England and New Zealand. Although Sehwag reckoned India can beat both teams on any day, he said the Men in Blue need to play a brave brand of cricket.
India are a good team and can beat both England and New Zealand on any day: Virender Sehwag
“India doesn’t need to learn anything from them. India are a good team and can beat both England and New Zealand on any day, but one thing they can definitely learn is to be positive and play positively because T20 format or white-ball cricket, it’s the format of brave players and you have to take risks, you need to express yourself,” Sehwag said on his Facebook Watch show Virugiri Dot Com.
Meanwhile, Team India is currently gearing up to host New Zealand in a three-match T20I series, starting from November 17. Offering a piece of advice, the cricket legend urged the Indian team to play fearless cricket without thinking much about the result.
“India have managed to do that well in the past,” Sehwag said. “Now again the time has come to repeat it. I would like to say that when New Zealand comes to India, play a brave and expressive brand of cricket and don’t worry about the result because if you play bravely then the result will be in your favor,” asserted Sehwag.
