‘You're a Ferrari, you take off in the first gear, not the sixth’ - Kartik Tyagi reveals coach Dale Steyn’s advice
Tyagi was roped in by SRH for INR 4 crore at the mega auction.
Kartik Tyagi, the Sunrisers Hyderabad bowler hailing from Uttar Pradesh, joined the squad at the nets for the training session recently. When he joined the players, he received a piece of advice from the experienced bowling coach Dale Steyn.
Tyagi was roped in by SRH for INR 4 crore at the mega auction. SRH have Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, and Umran Malik as the Indian seamers in their current squad, and Tyagi became an addition this year.
Previously with the Rajasthan Royals, he had displayed his potential abilities while playing for the team. He was consistent with his pace as he bowled at 140 kmph, and sometimes even touched the 145. In a video shared by Sunrisers Hyderabad, Steyn is seen talking to the youngster during the practice session.
“Just gradual. You’re a Ferrari, you take off in the first gear, not the sixth gear. Slowly but surely, I want you get to the sixth gear,” said Steyn to the 21-year-old. Steyn hasn’t had the most memorable outing as SRH’s bowling coach as the bowlers gave away 210 runs in the first game, losing it to Rajasthan Royals.
I’m practicing yorkers and bowling with the new ball: Kartik Tyagi
Tyagi said he is excited to learn from the Proteas sensation. “First of all, I met the whole team. I met Dale as well, I was excited to work with him. First session was a bit tiring, it was fun joining the team. I am trying to get back to my routine,” he said.
“Firstly, bowling the number of overs I usually do. Today I tried to bowl more overs, I tried fielding. Creating match like scenarios during practice. I’m practicing yorkers and bowling with the new ball,” Tyagi added.
With Tyagi’s addition to the side and the other bowlers of the team unable to showcase consistency, SRH will look to utilise his strengths in the best way possible to open their account in IPL 2022. SRH will have to manage both the batting as well as the bowling line-up in order to make a mark in the next game.
