Australian spin legend Shane Warne passed away on March four in Thailand, aged 52. Tributes started pouring in from the fans and the cricketing fraternity across the globe. While everyone including the likes of the leggie’s former teammates, his IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals, passionate cricket enthusiasts came forward to offer him their last respects, one of the fans of the game has shared a throwback video where he made his bat do the talking after being sledged.

Warne had made former England opener Andrew Strauss eat his words during the second Ashes 2005 Test match at Edgbaston. It so happened that the Melbourne cricketer had bamboozled Strauss in the second innings with a beautiful delivery and the latter looked to play some mind games while the veteran spinner was trying to save the Test match for Australia as they chased 282.

When Shane Warne gave a befitting reply to Andrew Strauss

Shane Warne was trying to keep the Aussies in the contest but, Andrew Strauss who was fielding at silly point had other ideas as he decided to divert his attention by all possible means.

“Fielding at silly point, I thought I have got to say something to him. I said, ‘Come on Gilo ( Ashley Giles), he is really struggling against you here,” said Strauss recalling the incident during an old interview in a video shared by a Twitterati.

Nonetheless, Warne did not lose his composure at that point in time and told the Englishman that he was the one who was struggling around there. At the same time, the leggie also warned the then-emerging batter that if he uttered another word then the bowler would be taken to the cleaners. Strauss paid no heed to it and continued chirping. But, his strategy backfired and Shane Warne did exactly what he had just said by hitting Giles to the stands.

“There was another bit to this, which I have never told. He then turned around to me again and said, ‘Listen mate, you say another word to me and I will hit the next ball for a six.’ I went, ‘Alright then. Come on Gilo, he is really struggling against you here.’ Bang! Over square leg for six. ‘You’re gonna say it again mate?’ “, Andrew Strauss said.

The lower-order batter did exceptionally well in that innings. Unfortunately, he was out hit wicket by Andrew Flintoff. Australia went on to suffer an agonizing defeat by just two runs. The leg-spinner had a good match with the ball in hand as he took 10 wickets.
