Yuvraj has played a big role in whoever I am today, says Ravichandran Ashwin
"Learning from experiences and taking advice is something I am never averse to," Ravichandran Ashwin quoted.
The Kings XI Punjab recently unveiled their new jersey for the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League. At the launch event, the newly appointed captain Ravichandran Ashwin and the Director of the franchise, Virender Sehwag, were both present. The two main men of the franchise looked very pleased with the team setup for the season. They reckon this is the best KXIP unit that is capable to lift the trophy.
The squad boasts of big names like Yuvraj Singh and Chris Gayle. While many felt that the team missed the trick by shelling out big bucks on veteran players, Ashwin and Sehwag backed the moved. In fact, Sehwag remarked that Yuvraj and Gayle could be vital players for the team. Furthermore, Ravichandran Ashwin also noted that Yuvraj Singh has had a major role to play in shaping his career.
“Both Yuvi and Viru paaji have been my captains at different stages of my career. I played under Yuvi paaji in my first Challenger Trophy and he has played a big role in whoever I am today. Learning from experiences and taking advice is something I am never averse to,” Ravichandran Ashwin quoted as per the quotes in Times Now.
Sehwag happy with the coaching staff
Meanwhile, at the very same event, Virender Sehwag expressed his satisfaction with the other appointments made by the franchise ahead of the season. Kings XI Punjab have roped in former Australian cricketer Brad Hodge as the head coach of the team. Hodge has previously worked in the same capacity for the Gujarat Lions. Also, the franchise has named former Indian cricketer Venkatesh Prasad as the new head bowling coach of the team. Sehwag believes that both Hodge and Prasad are value additions to the camp.
“We are glad to have a foreign coach join the team this year along with Venkatesh. I hope the team benefits hugely from their collective experiences,” Virender Sehwag noted.
