Yuvraj Singh attempts to hit the helicopter shot perfectly
Yuvraj's next assignment is in the upcoming edition of the IPL.
Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh will be seen plying his trade in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 for the Mumbai Indians (MI). MI had bought Yuvraj in the IPL 2019 auction for his base price of INR 1 crore. Earlier, he had featured in Kings XI Punjab team in the IPL 2018 season.
At the moment, Yuvraj Singh is playing in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy for Punjab. However, he has not been able to do much in the tourney, scoring 73 runs in the season thus far at an average of 18.25 and a strike rate of about 112. His highest score so far is 26 runs in 15 balls, which came against Railways, including six boundaries.
The cricketer is also getting to know his new IPL franchise, the Mukesh Ambani owned Mumbai Indians, who have won the IPL title three times in 2013, 2015, and 2017. During the practice, Yuvraj Singh tried his hands at emulating his friends MS Dhoni and attempted to hit Dhoni’s patented ‘helicopter shot’.
Attempts at India comeback
On the other hand, Yuvraj last played for India against the Windies in 2017 and since then, has been sidelined for the lack of form and fitness, and a poor IPL 2018 didn’t help his cause in a bid to make a return to the team. The 37-year-old all-rounder, who was named the Player of the Tournament in the ICC World Cup 2011, which the Indian team won at home, has shown willingness to play cricket till the end of 2019 and then take a decision on his career.
In 2018 IPL, Yuvraj managed just 65 runs in 8 games at an average close to 11. His strike rate also took a dip and fell to an all-time IPL career low of 89. His time with Kings XI Punjab was expected to be a career changer for the southpaw, but his inability to get going proved to be his downfall.
IPL 2019 preparations
After the Kings XI Punjab parted ways with Yuvraj Singh, there were rumours of him going unsold in the 2019 auctions, but Mumbai Indians saved his day by picking him and now will hope that Yuvraj Singh can finally grab the opportunity with both hands and make a claim for a berth in the Indian team to have one last glory run in the blue jersey.
