Yuvraj Singh is confident of making a India comeback: It’s been a while since we have seen Yuvraj Singh play in the Indian jersey. He has been out of favour since last year. But, Yuvraj Singh, the stylish Indian batsman is not completely out of action. He is currently at the helm of the Punjab Ranji team in the absence of Harbhajan Singh and is confident of making a return to International cricket soon.

The 33-year-old dasher spoke candidly about his future schemes, the association of ex-cricketers with BCCI and his influence in the Punjab team.

The upcoming domestic season is long and there is a lot of cricket to be played. With such a long season waiting ahead, he has plenty of opportunities to knock some great scores and get back in the reckoning for the national team. Ranji is the best platform get back into form, perform and make a strong point for selection. And, no doubt, he also believes the same.

Yuvraj said “Definitely there is lot of cricket to be played in the season. I have been training really hard since the last two months for the season. The Punjab side is also brimming with confidence and looking forward to the matches. I am aiming to spend maximum time in the middle during various matches and want to compile big scores. It would be great to get the runs and get back into form and gain confidence. The season starting a month before the usual schedule will also help in getting into the cricket mode in prior.

In the absence of Harbhajan Singh, Yuvraj Singh was chosen as the skipper of the Punjab side. His captaincy stint began on a very positive note as they secured an outright victory against Railways side.

“Mandeep, Uday, Gurkeerat, Gitansh did well with the bat and they were backed so well by medium-pacers Barinder Sran, Siddharth Kaul and then left-arm spinner Varun Khanna rounded-off the match with an eight-wicket haul. Barinder bowled well on a placid track“ he said applauding his young team-mates.

He also emphasized the importance of proper guidance to boost the confidence of the youngsters playing in the squad.

When I started out, there was not much guidance provided by the seniors. Apart from Sandeep Sharma in the Punjab camp, there was not much guidance. When in the Indian team, senior cricketers like Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar were there to mentor us. We really looked up to them and in the process our form peaked.”

He said that he likes to play that similar role of a mentor in the in the Punjab side. He was also confident that the younger lot of players like Sandeep Sharma, Mandeep Singh, Mama Vohra and Jeewanjot Singh promise a lot for the future and will play for India in coming future.

He was also quizzed whether he would like to continue leading the side. He said that it depends on the Harbhajan’s availability otherwise he’s happy with the role of a vice-captain.

When asked about his views regarding Sourav Ganguly becoming CAB president, Rahul Dravid becoming India A coach and Tendulkar’s regular association with BCCI.  He said that it’s always beneficial and encouraging when you have such greats contributing to the Indian cricket even after retirement.

He said “All three of them are great Indian cricketers, who have made commendable contribution to Indian cricket. They are living legends. Like others, I have been greatly influenced by Sourav and Sachin. Such experienced cricketers getting linked with BCCI will do wonders to Indian cricket and take it to new heights. The BCCI is surely going to benefit with their attachment.”

And, finally, when questioned about his personal life and marriage plans, he responsibly said that marriage is important but has not decided when to tie the knot and settle down in his life. But, he assured that it’s going to happen soon.
