Yuvraj Singh has played well under MS Dhoni: Ashish Nehra
Under MS Dhoni when India won the World Cup 2011, Yuvraj was adjudged as the man of the tournament.
Yuvraj Singh was one of the biggest assets which India has given to world cricket. From scoring runs under pressure to picking up wickets to break partnerships and then going out in the middle to take some brilliant catches, Yuvraj has done it all. More than anything, it was the impact that he had on the game which made all the difference and made him a superstar.
Former Indian fast bowler Ashish Nehra revealed that he feels Yuvraj Singh played his best cricket under MS Dhoni. He pointed out that the way Yuvraj batted in 2007 and 2008 onwards, going into the World Cup 2011, it was just brilliant.
Ashish Nehra says Yuvraj played his best cricket under MS Dhoni
“Yuvraj has played well under MS Dhoni, as far as I have seen Yuvraj’s career, the way he has batted in 2007 and 2008 onwards it has been impeccable and in 2011 we saw how he braved his sickness and played brilliantly under Dhoni,” said Nehra during the show “Cricket Connected” on Star Sports.
Under MS Dhoni when India won the World Cup 2011, Yuvraj was adjudged as the man of the tournament. He had scored 362 runs and taken 15 wickets in that tournament. Ashish Nehra was also a part of that team. Before that, Yuvraj had played a crucial role during the 2007 World T20 triumph as well. His two fifties against Australia (in the semi-final) and England (in a do-or-die game) had helped India to eventually go and win the tournament.
Nehra then made a point about how a player has one choice of captain during his long career and he felt for Yuvi it was MSD. “I feel every player has their own choice of a favourite captain when they play for 16 years and Yuvraj played well under Dhoni according to me,” he added.
Statistically, Yuvraj Singh did have a great record under MS Dhoni, but not the best. Yuvraj played 104 matches under MS Dhoni, scoring 3077 runs at an average of 36.20. During this time, he had scored six centuries and 21 half-centuries. However, under Rahul Dravid, Yuvi had an average of 44.11 in 68 matches where he had accumulated 2294 runs.
Under Dravid, the Punjab batsman had also scored four centuries and 13 half-centuries. However, under Dhoni, Yuvraj played a majority of his T20Is, in which, needless to say, he was fantastic with the bat.
