Yuvraj Singh reckons Virat Kohli has nothing to prove after his masterclass at Edgbaston
The Delhi-born batsman played a masterful knock of 149 runs from 225 deliveries.
Virat Kohli is currently one of the most feared batsmen across the globe in all formats of the sport. He made his debut for India back in 2008 and hasn’t taken a backward step ever since. He forayed into Test cricket back in 2011 and strained to initially find his feet in the format. However, gradually, he also has carved a reputation for being a brute force to reckon with even in the longest format.
While the cricketer has superlative records around the world, his numbers on English soil, especially in Tests, weren’t impressive prior to the start of India’s ongoing five-match series against England. He faltered in all the matches and had a horrendous tour. He could score only 134 runs in ten innings, including a couple of ducks, at an abysmal average of 13.40 and with a highest score of 39.
Kohli mauls the English attack
However, the Delhi-born batsman played a masterful knock of 149 runs from 225 deliveries at Edgbaston in Birmingham and improved his numbers to a significant extent. He came to bat after the fall of Murali Vijay’s wicket and struggled to come to terms with the playing conditions. However, he didn’t let the situation unnerve him. At one stage India were reeling at 182/8 with a trail of 105 runs.
Kohli walked a tightrope and farmed the strike with the tailenders at the other end. The 29-year-old eventually accomplished his maiden Test ton in the country in 172 deliveries. His knock was laced with 22 boundaries and a six off Sam Curran. Adil Rashid eventually accounted for his dismissal.
Meanwhile, Yuvraj Singh, the all-round cricketer from Punjab, believes that Virat has nothing to prove in the nation and he is well and truly on his way of attaining greatness in the sport. He took to Twitter and wrote, “Don’t think after this knock @imVkohli needs to prove anything to anyone on his journey to greatness”
