After several hours of negotiations with the CAC, Sourav Ganguly finally revealed the status of Zaheer Khan’s contract with the Indian Cricket Team. Khan was initially announced as the bowling coach of the Indian team while Rahul Dravid was appointed as the batting consultant for specific away tours. But reports suggested that Zaheer’s appointment was more like that of Dravid, and he won’t be able to spend 250 days on the road with the Indian team.

Sourav Ganguly announced that Zaheer Khan’s contract would be for only 150 days per year, after negotiations with the party. Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri wanted Bharath Arun as the full-time bowling coach of the Indian Team. Shastri wants Zaheer Khan to lay the blueprints of the plan while Arun works on the implementation of the plans. The BCCI has already clarified in a statement that Zaheer’s appointment is on a tour-to-tour basis, it is clear that he will be spending around five months with the Indian team.

Letter to CoA

According to reports, Zaheer did not wish to commit more than 100 days but with CAC insisting, it is now a done deal for 150 days. The drama regarding the Indian Coach does not seem to end as reports suggest that Shastri was unhappy with the selection of Zaheer Khan as the bowling coach. Meanwhile, the CoA accused the CAC of overstepping its line by appointing Zaheer and Dravid as consultants. Distraught with the response of the CoA, the CAC wrote a scathing letter addressing Vinod Rai, claiming that whatever move was executed was under the consent of Ravi Shastri and Virat Kohli.

“Zaheer was contracted for 150 days per year,” quoted Sourav Ganguly according to Sportstarlive. The CoA later released a media release in the wake of the CAC letter and clarified that Zaheer and Dravid have been appointed as the consultants and they would be a part of the team during specific overseas tours.
