Zainab Abbas praises Moeen Ali as he continues to shine at The Ageas Bowl
He had picked 8 wickets in 2014 at the same venue against India.
England won the fourth Test against India by 60 runs to conquer the series with an unassailable lead of 3-1. After the loss in the previous Test, the Britts were under the pump and needed something special to pull this game off. The remarkable performance came from all-rounder Moeen Ali who made a comeback into the Test team.
He picked 9 wickets in the game including a five-wicket haul in the first innings. Further, he also contributed with the bat and scored 40 runs when England were struggling at 86/6 on the first day. The rough patches on the pitch assisted the off-spinner and he unleashed all his variations at the Indian batsmen to help England bag a memorable win. With this performance, the bowling all-rounder helped fans reminisce his performances four years ago at the same venue.
Ali does it again at Southampton
In 2014, the first Test between both these sides ended up being a draw. Team India made a memorable comeback in the second Test by winning a Test match at Lord’s after 28 years. The third game was played at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton with the hosts under tremendous pressure to bounce back. Moeen Ali played the role of a destructor for India in this encounter by picking up 6 wickets in the second innings of the game as England won the match by 266 runs.
Pakistan Sports presenter Zainab Abbas took it to Twitter to remind the fans about the 31-year-old’s performance in 2014. She further mentioned that Moeen also had an overall good series against India in 2014 too. She also stated that India was over-reliant on their skipper Virat Kohli and added that the top five batsmen were underperforming.
“Moeen Ali loves playing at Southampton vs India,9 wickets today and 8 in 2014 vs India, had a good overall series vs them in 2014 too, India’s top five underperforming, heavily rely on Kohli to perform.. #ENGvIND,‘ Zainab Abbas wrote in her tweet.
