Over the last couple of months, batting all-rounder Deepak Hooda has been a valuable asset for Team India in white-ball cricket due to his consistent performances. He once again came to the Men in Blue’s rescue with a handy 25 in the second One Day International against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday, August 20. The win helped India in taking an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series.

Meanwhile, Hooda has also achieved a new feat with his vital match-winning knock against Zimbabwe. It is not just another unique record, but a world record. It is to be noted that ever since his international debut, India have gone on to win every match that he has played and as of now, the Men in Blue have registered 16 consecutive wins across formats whenever the Rohtak cricketer has been in the playing XI.

Deepak Hooda: India’s new lucky charm

With India registering 16 successive victories in all the matches that Deepak Hooda has played, this is now the longest unbeaten streak for a player post his debut at the highest level. With Hooda in the team, the Indian team have won seven One Day Internationals and nine T20Is.

The middle-order batter has been a part of the India squad for many series since 2017, but it was only in February 2022 that he got to make his international debut.

Deepak Hooda (16) has now gone past Romania’s Satvik Nadigotla (15). The other players in this elite list include the likes of senior South African middle-order batter David Miller and Romania’s Shantanu Vashisht (both 13 each).

Coming back to the Zimbabwe game, apart from scoring an important 25, the 27-year-old also made an impact with the ball in hand with figures of 1/6 from his two overs at an economy of three. He accounted for a well-set Sean Williams.

The promising cricketer would now be hoping to help India in registering a whitewash by yet another splendid all-round performance when both teams meet in the third ODI at Harare on Monday, August 22.
