The eighth edition of the ICC T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in Australia and it will kick off from Sunday, October 16 onwards. Even though the main draw will commence from the 22nd onwards with the defending champions facing arch-rivals England, the first week starting from the 16th will be group stages where eight teams divided in two groups each would be competing for earning a right to play in the Super 12.
However, only the top two teams from each group will make it to the main draw. Two former champions the West Indies and Sri Lanka will be participating in the group fixtures.
As far as the group stages are concerned, Zimbabwe and Ireland are placed in Group B along with Scotland and the West Indies. Both teams will be locking horns with each other on Monday, October 17 at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. The two teams had previously faced off in September last year with the Irish team coming out on top in a rain-curtailed encounter. Even though the two teams have not faced off in the longest format, both have had some good encounters in the limited-overs.
Their first encounter happened to be during the 2007 World Cup in March of that year with the game ending in a hard-fought tie. As far as their maiden T20I clash is concerned, they faced each other for the very first time it was the Irish team who registered a three-wicket victory in the Group B clash on March 17, 2014.
