10 cricketers who proved age is just a number: Cricketers are not their age, country or religion they are simply players who play with all their might and keep their passion for the game higher above everything else. Some players come and go but there have always been a few names that stayed on for long, and have proved themselves worthwhile. They aged but their talent did not diminish rather ripened with experience. Cricket world has bowed down to their wondrous performances during the last stages of their careers. Here are we have 10 cricketers who proved age is just a number: 1. Bradd Hogg: Brad Hogg. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Brad Hogg the Australian spinner made his debut in the International Cricket back in 1996 though his tenure didn’t last long in his debut year and he was not selected in the Australian team for the next seven years and 78 games. He made a comeback in 2002 and it was from the year 2003 that Hogg became one of the prominent members of the Australian squad. Hogg is Australia’s most volatile Chinaman since Fleetwood Smith in 1930s. He made a show against Zimbabwe’s best Andy Flower when he bowled a flipper to him. The way his ball from off to leg for the right handers is a gift. Hogg played for 7 more years in 36 ODIs and accounted 156 wickets. He retired from Test and one-day Internationals in 2008 but played for the T20 World Cup for Australia in 2014 and still continues to play league cricket at the age of 40. (© Getty Images) Sangakkara has given 15 long years of his life to cricket; he made his debut back in the year 2000 and has been a prominent part of the Sri Lanka team since. But, Sanga is a proof that age is just a number 15 years of playing and he continued playing match winning innings even in the late 30s. Sangakkara has delivered some awe striking performances. Last five years of his Test career which is about to end in in a few days, has seen a high. Sanga has scored 4 double centuries, a triple ton and 17 centuries in the last 5 years of his Test career. These grey hair haven’t only been a bliss as far as experience is concerned but have kept themselves in full health and fit for the challenges. 3. Rangana Herath: Rangana Herath.(Photo Source: AFP) Herath came as the heir to Muttiah Murlithran in the Sri Lankan Test side. The 37-year old continues to deliver his duty as an orthodox left-arm spinner. Though he made his debut back in 1999 Herath, in his last match against India proved that he could still deliver long and disastrous spells. Herath took 7 match-winning wickets for the Sri Lankan side that was on a verge of losing the game on the second day of Test match at Galle. 4. Misbah-ul-Haq: Misbah Ul Haq. (Photo Source : Getty Images) He was given the captaincy of the Pakistani side at the age of 36 in 2010, Misbah-ul-Haq was all that the drowning team needed. In a way, Misbah’s career started at this age. His batting had seen unprecedented consistency from 2011. The end of the year 2014 saw Misbah hit the fastest hundred in just 56 balls from Misbah against Australia. Misbah equaled Vivian Richards, when at the age of 40 he hit the smashing Test hundred. Age is yes, just a number. Misbah is another proof of this saying. He both played and led the Pakistan team to new heights. 5. Sachin Tendulkar: Sachin Tendulkar. Cricketers who are a part of the International teams look up to him even today, Sachin no doubt is a legend. His long career that began in 1989 and ended in 2013 has endless list of awesome innings. The last 4 years of the Master’s career showed how much more was still left to be seen. 6 centuries, 2 double centuries in the longest format of the game, overshadowed his growing age. 6 hundreds, a double ton in ODIs is the evidence of how age was a mere number for this legend. 6. Imran Khan: Imran Khan (Photo Source: Getty Images) Unarguably one of the finest cricketers Pakistan has ever produced and one of the top all-rounders of all time, Imran Khan is no doubt a legend. He was another example who proved that age doesn’t matter. Imran Khan was the skipper of the Pakistani side that won the World Cup in 1992. He was 42 years when he lifted the World Cup for his country and is the only one to do it for Pakistan. 7. Younis Khan: Younis Khan. (Photo Source: AFP) The former captain, who won the T20 world Cup for the Pakistan, is a fine example of age just being a number. Younis has always been a remarkable Test player. The 37-year old right-hand middle order batsman has played knocking innings in Test cricket in the last few years. His performance earlier this year is one of the most recent with two centuries 148 and 177* against Bangladesh. 2014 saw two doubles and several centuries. Younis is still a part of the Pakistan team, and there is still cricket left in him. 8. Michael Hussey: Michael Hussey. (© Getty Images) The 40-year old Aussie left-hand batsman is another legend in the list. Hussey played till the age of 38 and continued delivering by scoring runs. In his late 30s he scored during his last three years of career he scored 6 Tests hundred and kept on winning matches for the Australian side. Michael Hussey is an accumulator, it is hard to distract him when he is on crease. Hussey played in every situation, long Test innings as well as smashing 17 off just 5 balls off the over. He played till the age of 38 and proved that age is just a number. 9. Shivnarine Chanderpaul: Shivnarine Chanderpaul. (© Getty Images) 41-year old left-hand batsman of the West Indies team, Chanderpaul made his cricket debut back in 1994 at the age of 20. 20 years and still counting Chanderpaul is the possessor of the crabbiest technique and for him cricket is much more than the coaching handbook. He has been a consistent player scoring all through the years. Chanderpaul is still fit and his technique has fetched him plenty of runs, he has been a part of West Indian cricket for at least two decades. He has been scoring runs consistently, with a double hundred coming off in 2012, followed by several centuries in the past three years. 10. Sir Jack Hobbs: Sir Jack Hobbs. Hobbs is the oldest man to hit a century in Test cricket in 1928-29 during the Ashes, he definitely proved that age is merely a number. In his total of 61 Test matches Jack scored 5410 runs at an average of 56.94. In his long career that didn’t end till he was past 50, Hobbs kept on scoring.
