IPL 2020: 10 Hilarious memes from RCB vs KXIP game
KXIP's Nicholas Pooran stepped in and smashed a six to finish the game in style against RCB.
The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were involved in a thrilling encounter in the 31st fixture of the 13th edition of the IPL on Thursday (October 15) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Though Punjab had nearly messed up another match by bringing the equation down to ‘1 run needed off 1 ball’, they cleared the hurdle by a few inches to register their second win of the season.
KXIP had opened their account in the 2020 edition by defeating Bangalore while the latter had registered their biggest loss in the competition so far against the former only. Punjab had thumped the Bangalore outfit by 97 runs at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. However, their fortunes have turned around drastically in the T20 extravaganza. While Virat Kohli’s Challengers are sitting at the third position in the points table, are tottering at the bottom of the points table.
Winning the toss, Virat Kohli elected to bat first. The Challengers got off to a flying start with 38 runs in just 4 overs. However, the match took a turn when both the opening batsmen Aaron Finch and Devdutt Paddikal went back to the pavilion within six overs. Surprisingly, after the dismissal of Finch, instead of AB de Villiers, Washington Sundar came to support the skipper Virat Kohli. Sundar couldn’t contribute much and went back to the pavilion. He was soon followed by Shivam Dube who could make only 23 off 19 deliveries.
RCB still had hopes of a big total as the destructive pair of Kohli and AB was present on the match field. However, De Villiers got out early (2 off 5) and was followed by Kohli in the same over who smashed 48 off 39. Meanwhile, a few big-hits by Chris Morris and Isuru Udana ensured that the team reached a respectable score of 171 in 20 overs.
Punjab yet again makes an easy chase difficult
In reply to the 171 posted on the board, the flamboyant opening pair of the Punjab franchise, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal, were involved in a partnership of 78 runs in 8 overs. Playing a quickfire knock of 45 runs off 25 deliveries, Mayank made things easy for the upcoming batsmen. After spending some time on the field, both Gayle and Rahul started firing which reduced the equation to 11 off 18 balls. Bowling in the 17th over, Morris gave away just 4 runs and Kings needed 7 in 12 deliveries.
It was supposed to be a cakewalk for the KL Rahul squad but the tight bowling by Isuru Udana in the 19th over followed by some leg-breaks by Yuzvendra Chahal in the last over meant that the opposition needed 1 run to win in two balls. However, there was a twist in the tale as Gayle got run-out at the second last ball and then KXIP had to score 1 run in 1 ball to prevent the match from going into a Super Over. This is when Nicholas Pooran stepped in and smashed a six to finish the game in style.
