10 Players we wanted to see in All Stars T20: The cricket fans all around the world witnessed a spectacle, a match between the best of the bests. And it was an instant classic with each and every player showing shades of their prime form. While Sehwag kick-started the proceedings with a blitzkrieg knock, Shane Warne in an emphatic fashion brought back the Warriors into the match with 3 quick wickets. Akhtar’s pace was too hot to handle at times, and Ponting had a calm demeanor and helped the team to cross the finish line. But even amongst the star-studded event, at times we did miss the presence of a few players. Players who have thoroughly entertained us over their career span, but surprisingly, could not find a spot in the T20 initiative by Sachin and Warne. And these players were sorely missed, in spite of having a star-cast in front of us. So here are the 10 players we wanted to see in All Stars T20 1.Rahul Dravid (Photo Source: BCCI) The only Indian batsman absent amongst the “Fab 5”, Dravid, in an act of professionalism, probably chose to remain back at home and continue to train the youngsters in India A team. But nevertheless, he was sorely missed, especially when we had an opportunity to see Sachin, Sehwag and Laxman bat. 2.Adam Gilchrist Adam Gilchrist. (© Getty Images) When Matthew Hayden came out to bat, we sorely missed his opening partner, who was known for his quirky sense of humor and more importantly, explosive batting. One of the greatest openers of all times in the shorter formats, Adam Gilchrist is a sort of player who can leave everyone mesmerized with his shot selection. And in small grounds wherein big hitters made merry, Gilchrist would have been an absolute treat to watch. 3.Brett Lee Brett Lee. (© Getty Images) The pace demon, who also shares his 39th birthday this week, was another player who was certainly missed. Even with so many fitness troubles, he managed to play professional cricket till this year, aged 38. Just imagine how lethal would have an opening bowling combination of Akhtar and Lee would have looked? It would have been an absolute delight to watch. 4.Waqar Younis Waqar Younis. (Photo Source: Reuters) Though Wasim Akram bowled delightfully at the end of the innings, just imagine what would have been the situation if we had Waqar in place of him? His inswinging yorkers were hazardous to a player’s leg, even with so much protection available nowadays. He could have been the perfect death bowler for either of the teams in All-Stars league, and even more importantly, we missed out a chance to see the double-Ws in action once again. 5.Sanath Jayasuriya Sanath Jayasuriya. (© LAKRUWAN WANNIARACHCHI/AFP/Getty Images) The man who revolutionized opening batting in ODIs, was surprisingly missing from the star-studded line-up. One of the most natural hitter of the ball during his times, he would have flattened the pace attacks with some explosive shot selection, if he had played. 6.Andrew Flintoff (Photo Source: DailyMail.co.uk) Freddie Flintoff was one of the best in business during his time. While he terrorized batsmen occasionally with his pace and accuracy, he was more than just a decent batsman. He could have been an absolute treat to watch in All Stars team. 7.Anil Kumble Anil Kumble. (© PRAKASH SINGH/AFP/Getty Images) How lethal would Kumble would have been if he had paired up with Murali yesterday? Warne and Vettori single-handedly took away the match from the blasters, and Murali, despite bowling extremely well, lacked a partner. And that’s where Kumble was crucial. And not to mention that he is one of the most respected cricketers, he was another player who was missed, especially by the Indian fans. 8.Inzamam Ul Haq Inzamam-ul-Haq. (© Getty Images) Fondly known as “Aaloo” for his bodyframe, Inzy was one of the greatest batsmen to have come from Pakistan. Who wouldn’t have wanted to see him play alongside the all-time greats? Currently the head coach of Afghanistan cricket team, he was another batsman which the fans would have loved to see him in action. 9.Herschelle Gibbs Herschelle Gibbs. (© Getty Images) One of the most underrated batsmen of his generation, Gibbs was the showman of the South African team before the arrival of one AB de Villiers. With the ability to destroy any attack on his day, he was an absolute delight to watch during his days, and would have made a great addition to the All-Star team. 10.Stephen Fleming Stephen Fleming. (© Getty Images) One of the greatest captains to have played the game, Fleming was a master tactician and a great opener. It was under his captaincy that players like Vettori and McCullum flourished. Though not the hardest striker of the ball, he had a wide array of shots in his armory. In a team consisting of yesteryears’ excellent captains, it was a disappointment of not seeing Fleming amongst them.
