101 cricketers retained by the VIVO IPL franchises
The window for the franchises to retain players for the VIVO Indian Premier League 2016 season closed at 1700 hrs IST today (December 31, 2015). A total of 101 cricketers including 37 overseas players have been retained by the VIVO IPL franchises. The high profile players who have not been retained by their respective franchises and will go under the hammer during the auctions are Yuvraj Singh, Ishant Sharma, Dale Steyn, Dinesh Karthik and Aaron Finch.
There are five ways in which a team can acquire players: The annual auction, signing domestic players, signing uncapped players, trading players, and signing replacements. In the trading window, a player can only be traded with his consent, with the franchise paying the difference if any between the old and new contract. If the new contract is worth more than the older one, the difference is shared between the player and the franchise selling the player.
