While the whole country celebrated Pakistan cricket team’s historic Champions Trophy triumph over India, it was not quite the same for a 15-year-old boy named, Syed Hussain Raza Zaidi. The kid was hit by a stray bullet as the masses celebrated the proud victory by aerial firing.

The unfortunate incident took place on Sunday, 18th June when crazy celebrations flooded the streets of Pakistan. As per reports in the media, “Papa, I have been shot,” was the last words of the innocent soul who fell victim to the horrific accident amidst the hullabaloo.

Black day for the family

According to the reports by The Express Tribune, despite the nation’s win, the day turned out to be a loss for Syed’s family who lost their eldest son. Hussain was not the only one to undergo the pain as several others were also injured as a result of aerial firing. The number is estimated to be around a dozen.

The young boy lost his life at the Jinnah Post Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi. Hussain went out to the balcony to catch a glimpse of the ongoing carnival on the street. The boy also told his father Qasim “Papa some men holding guns are firing (now) that Pakistan are the new champions.”

Qasim asked his son to come back to the room when he heard his son shout “Papa, mujhey goli lagi hai,” explained the victim’s uncle, Syed Hassan Raza Zaidi.

He was hurried to the hospital but excessive blood loss by that time saw him lose his life at 2.am at the JPMC hospital.

According to another uncle of Hussain, Syed Nazir Raza Zaidi, the incident took place around 9.30 P.M at night when four men on two motorcycles passed by the Model Colony street firing gunshots in the air. One of those shots struck the kid in the balcony piercing through his ribs right into his stomach.

Syed Hussain Raza’s funeral took place in the Model Colony Mosque and he was buried in the Model Colony graveyard.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Amanullah Mehsud was taken into custody by the police for aerial firing as a result of the team’s historic win.
