This might be a slightly surprising name in this list considering the fact that Dwayne Smith has played match-winning knocks for both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). However, he was constantly in and out of the MI team. Moreover, his batting position wasn’t fixed either.

Smith turned out to play for MI for three seasons – 2008, 2012 and 2013. There were a couple of match-winning knocks against CSK itself and he got runs against them every time. Hence, that prompted the CSK management to buy Smith in the 2014 auction and back him.

The West Indian opener played 32 games across 2014 and 2015, scoring 965 runs at an average of 30.16. He formed a dynamic pair at the top of the order with Brendon McCullum. Hence, Smith was vital to CSK’s success in those two years.
