With just a few more days to go for the mega auction, a pool of 590 players has been shortlisted to go under the hammer by the franchises and out of the list, 228 are capped players, 355 are uncapped players and 7 belong to Associate Nations. The IPL 2022 will be a ten-team affair with Lucknow and Ahmedabad joining the edition and a total of 74 games will be played instead of the regular 56 clashes. The retentions have been named as well while it will be interesting to see if the veterans who have registered get a buyer.

Bengaluru is designated to be the venue for the mega auction on February 12 and 13 and the franchises will have their strategies ready for the big day. Mumbai Indians have the most IPL titles in the kitty with five to their name and a lot of credit should be given to their auction strategy over the years which has been essential in setting up the base. The season will also provide a lot more opportunity to the Indian players who have found it tough to get a game in the previous editions.

Let’s look at 3 players from the marquee list who can be expensive in IPL 2022 mega auction.

1. Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan is expected to be one the most expensive Indian picks in the IPL 2022 with the left-hander ticking a lot of boxes for the franchise he goes into. The 23-year-old played for the Mumbai Indians from the 2018 edition to last season and was expected to be retained by the franchise ahead of IPL 2022 until they opted for Suryakumar Yadav. Kishan had a fantastic IPL 2020 season which earned him an Indian call up for the first time and was picked up for the T20 World Cup 2021 as well.

However, Kishan lacked consistency in the IPL 2021 in the middle order and looked like he was more suited to opening the batting. The youngster is a prolific six-hitter and he can do the wicketkeeping job as well which makes him a top contender for the most expensive player. Kishan has scored 1452 runs in 61 IPL games so far at an average of 28.5 and a strike rate of 136.3. It won’t be a surprise if his former IPL team, Mumbai Indians break the bank for him.
