3 Players who can replace Virat Kohli as RCB Captain in next IPL season
Will RCB change their skipper next season?
1. AB de Villiers
When you think of Royal Challengers Bangalore there are two names that always strike you. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. While the former has been there since 2008, De Villers has been an integral part of the side since 2011. The franchise means a lot to him and has given his blood, sweat and tears to the team for a decade. He is perhaps the only one as passionate about the franchise as Virat.
Therefore, if Kohli steps down, his partner could be the ideal candidate to take up the role. He has led South Africa in the past and therefore, does have plenty of captaincy experience. Also, another important factor that could tip the scales in Ab’s favour is the fact that he shares a strong bond with the Indian skipper. A strong character like the Kohli would surely not be easy to captain at this point in his career.
But because Virat has immense respect and admiration for de Villiers, it makes his job much easier. With De Villiers taking over, the change in captaincy would be seamless and help retain a positive atmosphere within the team. Although a lot is going in De Villiers’ favour, he does not have the best T20I captaincy record as he has led his side in 18 games out of which they have won only eight.
Also, captaincy may not be a burden he wants to take up at this point in his career. But, even though there are a few matters of concern, ABD seems like the prime contender who could replace Virat Kohli.
