3 Records Rohit Sharma holds in Indian domestic cricket
Here we look at some of the major records that Rohit Sharma created or holds in the Indian domestic circuit.
1. Youngest Indian to become the all-format centurion
Towards the end of the 2006-07 domestic season, Rohit Sharma became the first-ever Indian to score hundreds in all three formats of professional cricket. He was four weeks away from turning 20 at that point by virtue of which he holds a unique record. That hundred helped Rohit to complete the set of a first-class ton, List A century and T20 hundred at the age of 19 years and 339 days. Sharma remains the youngest Indian player to score centuries in all three formats in official cricket.
He scored his maiden hundred in professional cricket during the 2005-06 season’s Deodhar Trophy. Representing the West Zone team, Rohit struck an unbeaten 142 from only 123 deliveries with 14 fours and 3 sixes while chasing North Zone’s total of 278/9. He was only 18 years and 307 days old when he helped West Zone win the game by 8 wickets with 25 balls to spare. Rohit scored his maiden first-class century during the 2006-07 season’s Ranji Trophy, the tournament that marked his debut for Mumbai.
He reached his hundred on the opening day of the match against Gujarat at the Wankhede. He was only 19 years and 239 days old then but had enough skill to covert the start into a double century. Rohit got out after scoring 205 from 267 balls with 23 boundaries. Karnataka’s Devdutt Padikkal came close to breaking Rohit’s record of being youngest Indian to complete this set during 2019-20 season. He got tons in Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare tournaments but had a best score of only 99 in Ranji Trophy.
