The game of T20 came into existence more than a decade ago and the explosive batsmen were an instant hit in the format. There were several new strokes invented to produce runs from all parts of the ground. With the advent of IPL, the innovation in batting just kept increasing every year. The likes of AB de Villiers, Glenn Maxwell invented multiple new shots and the 360-degree aspect was brought into the game. The shortest format of the game was seen more and more as the one for such batsmen only. But as the game evolved, it witnessed some players who have entrusted the techniques more than the inventions. They don’t play the extravagant shots like others yet are as successful as them. The format of the game does not matter to these players and they possess the same style and grace in their strokes across all the formats. There were speculations that he won’t be as successful in limited overs cricket but he proved everyone wrong and mastered the ODI format. He went one step further and owned the T20 format and showed that he belonged to that setup too. The right-hander is currently playing for Kings XI Punjab and is the leading run-scorer for them with 2 fifties and a hundred. He has played 38 international T20s and averaging 32.42 but in IPL, he has an even better record. In 13 matches so far, he is averaging 41.45 for 456 runs. It’s quite incredible to see how he has managed to amass such numbers with minimal changes in technique. #4 Gautam Gambhir Gautam Gambhir. He was once a prominent member of the Indian squad and a specialist of handling the new ball while batting up the order. He possesses the technique that works across all formats. In T20s, he trusts the cuts and drives to score runs and hardly ever uses the extraordinary strokes. Gambhir has played a staggering 140 IPL matches and scored 3908 runs at an average of 31.51. He is currently the fourth highest run-getter in IPL history, only behind Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He surely is not the one who can park the ball out of the stadium but uses his timing to a great effect that has an equal impact. The 28-year-old is one of the most stylish batsmen of the modern era and uses the extensions of the drives to send the ball to the boundary. Although he hasn’t played too many T20s for India yet has a tremendous record in IPL. In 103 games, he has amassed 2880 runs at 34.29 with a century and 24 half-centuries. He was a key batsman up the order for a number of years for Rajasthan Royals and now is doing the same for Rising Pune Supergiant. #2 Kane Williamson Kane Williamson. But when it comes to sheer abilities across all three formats, there is no doubt that Virat Kohli is the best of the lot. He doesn’t change his technique one bit in any of the formats and does equally well across all forms of the game. He certainly redefines the way T20 cricket is played with the graceful cover drives and flick shots. The Indian captain is currently the number one batsman in ICC T20 rankings. He averages an astounding 53.44 in T20Is at a strike rate of 134.86. While playing for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL, he has 4264 runs to his credit in 143 matches and averages 38.07. The 28-year-old is currently the second highest run-getter in IPL history and the battle for the top spot is on with Suresh Raina. The daunting record has come without playing a single ramp shot or a reverse sweep. He sticks to the basics and treats the fans with the masterclass each time he steps onto the field.
