The beautiful city of Maharashtra has already shown up in the IPL history with its two teams so far. Pune Warriors India and Rising Pune Supergiant were the two teams that represented the city in different years. While PWI turned to be unsuccessful in the mega event, RPS marked its presence in the IPL 2017 finale against MI.

In the domestic scenario also, Mumbai and Pune stand out to be two different teams from the same state. Also, in the IPL, Maharashtra is too diverse and large to show up with a single team at such a big platform. The players from the state can be divided well enough to represent a new team ahead of the 2021 season.

The team owner of the Rising Pune group, Sanjay Goenka, has indicated the group’s interest to move back into the cash-rich league. They might be in the plan of bidding for a Pune based IPL team again in the next season. The history of the Pune franchise is credible enough to mark their resumption in IPL 2021.
