Hardik Pandya, India’s premier all-rounder, has been involved in a number of controversies during his cricket career. In January 2019, Pandya along with KL Rahul appeared in a TV show ‘Koffee with Karan’ and made several controversial comments for which they received immediate backlash. His statements were categorised as ‘indecent’, ‘misogynistic’ and ‘disgraceful’.

As a result, both Pandya and Rahul were handed a suspension until a pending investigation and were called back from the then ongoing tours of Australia and New Zealand. After the infamous incident, the 28-year-old Pandya lost all of his sponsorships and branding. In IPL 2019, he made a strong comeback, playing a significant role in MI’s tournament-winning effort.

He played some really useful cameos in India’s limited over matches versus Australia in 2020 and made a strong case as a finisher for his team. His career has been under scrutiny due to a lot of injuries and it will be interesting to see how he overcomes these setbacks in the future.
