Amid Coronavirus outbreak, the government of major countries have enforced lockdown in their countries due to which the players are left with nothing much to do but spend time with their families in quarantine. With no games being played across major countries, the chances of players getting indulged in controversy are quite slim.

Moreover, it reduces the possibility of any player giving any type of statement. But, there are some of the former and current cricketers, who gave some controversial statements in media in these alarming conditions as well that hogged the spotlight.

Most of the cricketers have interacted with their fans and teammates through Instagram live session and this is when they passed on controversial comments.

Here we bring you five such controversial statements made by the cricketers:

1. Gautam Gambhir

On April 2, 2011, Team India registered a brilliant victory against Sri Lanka to win the World Cup after a long wait of 28 years. And, MS Dhoni, the then skipper finished that game in style with his brilliant six that scripted the history for the Men in Blue.

Earlier, this month, India celebrated the ninth anniversary of 2011 World Cup triumph. It was a big day for every Indian cricket fan as it marked the victory in the mega-event for the second time in the history of international cricket. A leading media house posted a still of MS Dhoni hitting that match-winning memorable six. Moreover, they gave it a caption that read,” a shot that millions of Indians into jubilation.”

However, it didn’t go down well with Gautam Gambhir, who came out with a controversial tweet through his official Twitter handle and said Team India won the World Cup on the back of a brilliant team effort but not only with MS Dhoni’s six.

His post read, “Just a reminder @ESPNcricinfo: #worldcup2011 was won by entire India, entire Indian team & all support staff. High time you hit your obsession for a SIX. This post from the former Indian opener gave air to an unwanted controversy in the media.
