Dinesh Karthik, the right-handed wicketkeeper batsmen was another player, who never got guidance from Sourav Ganguly in the national side. He got his maiden call up from Team India back in 2004 as a replacement for Parthiv Patel, who was dropped from the team due to his poor wicketkeeping. Karthik grabbed the opportunity with both hands as he took two brilliant catches on a difficult track in Mumbai.

Later on, he was praised by the cricketing fraternity for his brilliant work behind the stumps in his debut match. The fans had expected that finally, Team India has found a specialist wicketkeeper-batsman, who was quick with his gloves on and can bat as well in critical situations of the game. There is no doubt that he suddenly got off track with the bat as he was finding it difficult to pile some runs in Tests.

And, as a leader, Sourav Ganguly was expected to come up with some motivating gesture for Karthik. So, that he could get some enthusiasm in order to mark a strong comeback into the form but never happened. Dada soon replaced Dinesh Karthik with MS Dhoni and the rest is history. It’s been more than a decade for the same and Karthik is still fighting hard to cement his place in Team India as a regular player.
