The biggest surprise of the season has been the exclusion of Irfan Pathan from the playing XI of the Rising Pune Supergiants. Pathan, who came into the tournament being the leading wicket taker in Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy, has played just one match so far. He played in one solitary game against Kings XI Punjab and bowled just one over. Being dropped after that was something unexpected. With the RPS succumbing to defeats and all-rounders failing to perform, there have been speculations of him making a return but he is yet to get another go. Irfan had bagged 17 wickets in 10 matches at an average of 15.76 including a five-wicket haul against Assam in Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. With the team almost ousted, it will only be interesting to see if he gets a go in the remaining RPS matches.
