5 in-form domestic players who may get an India call-up soon

There may be various T20 leagues around the world, including the IPL but domestic cricket is still rated highly. You often hear players talk about how going through the grind in domestic cricket is important and how vital it is to consistently perform at all stages before making it to the international arena. Over the last few years, there are quite a few examples of players who have gone through the grind and have performed exceptionally well in domestic cricket and then have got an India call-up. Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari are prime examples. Similarly, with the Indian domestic season going on, here are five in-form domestic cricketers who might get an India call-up soon. 5 domestic players who might get an India call-up soon: Suryakumar Yadav Suryakumar Yadav. (Photo: IANS) It is a little surprising that someone like Suryakumar Yadav has never been given an opportunity in the Indian team. The Mumbai batsman has been around for nearly a decade. However, he has really hit his straps in the last two or three years. Yadav has been consistent over the last couple of seasons of the IPL. He was playing a finisher’s role when he was with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). But with Mumbai Indians (MI), he has been batting in the top order and has relished the opportunity. Yadav has been striking the ball beautifully and has shown that he can bat anywhere in the batting order as well. Moreover, the 29-year-old has been in dazzling form in this season. He played four innings in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and aggregated 226 runs. He had a strike-rate of 154.79. In the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he’s continued his red-hot form and has amassed 392 runs at an average of 56.00 and a strike-rate of 168.96. Thus, despite India’s consistent middle-order woes, Yadav wasn’t tried but he looks good and may well be on the cusp of a maiden India call-up. Devdutt Padikkal Devdutt Padikkal. (Photo Source: Twitter) Ever since the start of this season, there is one name that is topping the run charts in the white-ball tournaments and that is Devdutt Padikkal. The Karnataka opener has been in prime form and has piled up the runs consistently. Be it the 50-over format or the T20s, he has been leading the run charts in both formats. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Padikkal scored 609 runs at an average of 67.66 as Karnataka went on to lift the title. Those runs included two hundreds and five half-centuries as well. In the shortest format, Padikkal has raised his game and brought out another gear. He’s been batting like a dream. The 19-year-old scored 580 runs at an average of 64.45 which includes five fifties and a ton. These runs have come at a strike-rate of 175.75 and invariably, he has given Karnataka a strong start. Thus, the way the young opener has been batting, he deserves to be tried at the top level. There is no doubt that he will be among the favourites for the next India ‘A’ tour/series. And if he does well in those games, a national call-up might not be too far away. Shreyas Gopal Shreyas Gopal. (Photo Source: Twitter) If there is a list of some of most underrated cricketers in India, Shreyas Gopal will be among the top ones. The Karnataka all-rounder just goes about his business quietly and yet, he does his job really well. He is very effective with the ball and can also be pretty handy with the bat. Over the last few seasons, Gopal has been very good in the IPL and has made it a habit of dismissing some big names. Moreover, his form for Karnataka is invariably good. Irrespective of the format, Gopal stands up and delivers. Even in this season, the 26-year-old all-rounder has picked up 13 and 19 wickets respectively in the 50-over and 20-over formats. He hasn’t had much to do with the bat but he’s created a big impact with the ball. With this being the age and day of wrist-spinners and moreover, India looking for someone who can even bat down the order, Gopal may well be in contention to get his maiden international call-up. Abhimanyu Easwaran Abhimanyu Easwaran. (Photo Source: Twitter) Abhimanyu Easwaran is one of the most consistent all-format batsmen going around in the Indian domestic circuit at the moment. The Bengal cricketer has been accumulating the runs over the last few seasons in domestic cricket. Be it for India ‘A’ or Bengal, Easwaran has performed consistently. The top-order batsman has an average nearing 50 in both first-class and List ‘A’ cricket. In the longest form, Easwaran averages 48.91 while he averages 49.18 in the 50-over format. There is often a lot of talk about Easwaran, the red-ball batsman but he is an underrated white-ball batsman. In fact, he has a strike-rate of 131.19 in T20 cricket. Easwaran hasn’t had the best of times in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament but he’s shown glimpses of his form. In the 50-over tournament, the 24-year-old averaged 45.16. R Sai Kishore R. Sai Kishore. (Photo Source: TNPL) Sai Kishore is a relatively unknown figure in the Indian domestic cricketing circles. It was only a couple of years ago that he made his debut for Tamil Nadu and has slowly gone on to become a regular in all three formats, more so in the shorter ones. The left-arm spinner has been very impressive in this season. From seven games, Kishore picked up 11 wickets at an average of 19.27 in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He had an economy of 4.38. Meanwhile, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Kishore is the leading wicket-taker with 20 scalps. He has an average of 10.40 and strikes once every two overs as well. Despite being a finger spinner, he has found quite a bit of success. He even has a good record in domestic cricket in white-ball formats. Thus, Kishore might well be knocking on the Indian team’s door.
