5 Indian Players to watch out for in World T20

Cricketing greats such as Kapil Dev, Sourav Ganguly, Wasim Akram, Inzamam-ul-Haq and others have recently picked India as the overwhelming favourites to win the World T20 title at home. The predication is understandable considering the form India is currently in. The team defeated Australia in an away T20I series and followed it up with series win over Sri Lanka at home. India then lifted the Asia Cup in Bangladesh that showcased the team’s strength and depth. India has genuine match-winners who could make a huge impact n the mega event. Here’s a look at the 5 players who would play a key role in India’s fortunes in the competition. 1. Hardik Pandya: (Photo Source: BCCI) In his short international stint, has proved that he has the potential to become the all-rounder India has been looking for since a very long time. The team management is rightly showing faith in him by giving him maximum opportunities. The right-arm bowler generated good pace with the ball and is a fearless stroke player. In the 2015 IPL his performances under pressure enabled the Mumbai Indians to win some crunch games. His 45 T20s have produced 940 runs and 31 wickets while his 7 T20Is have yielded 60 runs and 4 wickets. 2. R Ashwin: Ravichandran Ashwin. One of the finest batsmen in the world, Kohli has been in sparkling form of late. He scored heavily in Australia and will look to continue his form. In the last edition of the WorldT20, Kohli was at his imperious best and arguably played the innings of the tournament in the semi-final against South Africa. Kohli has scored 504 runs in World T20 at a staggering average of 72 and a top score of 78 not out against Pakistan in the 2012 edition. He has smashed 44 fours and 14 sixes in the tournament. 4. Yuvi’s innings in World T20 have produced 541 runs at an average of 25.76. His strike rate is 132.59 having faced 408 balls. He has 4 half-centuries and has hammered 35 fours and a remarkable 31 sixes. He remained unbeaten on 3 occasions and has the top score of 70. This was a belligerent knock off just 30 balls in the semi-final of the 2007 edition that knocked the Aussies out of the competition. He is the 9th highest run scorer in the competition. 5. His class and current form make him one of the best in the business. His performances will hold the key to India’s success at home. The right-handed Mumbaikar’s 20 innings have produced 585 runs at an average of 48.75. He has hammered 52 fours and 20 maximums. Having faced 447 deliveries his strike rate is 130.87 and features 6 half-centuries. He has remained unbeaten on 8 occasions and has the top score of 79 not out against the Aussies in the Caribbean. For an opener, Rohit has shown tremendous consistency in white ball cricket.
