5 International stars who never played in the IPL
The cash-rich league has a large amount of money included, which leads to the excitement in players and fans. The unique concept of auctioning the players grabs more headlines than any player draft.
5. Mushfiqur Rahim
A livewire behind the stumps, a renowned captain, a great finisher and one of the best cricketers Bangladesh has ever produced. All these adjectives were not enough for Mushfiqur Rahim to grab an IPL deal for himself. The stumper has played in Pakistan and Bangladesh in T20 leagues, but IPL is yet to open its door for the Bangladeshi cricketer.
He has captained his national side, have been the protagonist against India on numerous occasions, but the 33-year-old never attracted a bid in the IPL auction. The wicket-keeper has sent his name for the auction on several occasions, but not getting a bid is something nobody would like and Rahim showed his dismay in an interview after the last auction.
“To be honest, I didn’t want to send my name at first because I thought no one is going to pick me. So there was no point in keeping my name there,” he said.
As per the rules, only 4 overseas players can feature in a playing eleven and this is the major reason for IPL franchises not bidding for such big names. Apart from that, there are limits on picking foreign players in the squad as well. Whatever the reason is, not featuring such big international names is definitely a two-way loss for the players and the tournament.
