5 IPL 2021 stars to watch out for in the second leg of PSL 2021

The 2021 Pakistan Super League (PSL) started in February and was moving alone until a series of COVID-19 cases emerged in the camps. The tournament had to be postponed and later, it was learned that the remaining matches would take place in June. However, whether the tournament happened in Pakistan or not remained to be seen. In the end, Abu Dhabi is set to host the second leg. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have managed to secure the necessary permissions to host the PSL in Abu Dhabi. In the meantime, the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL) had to be postponed as well due to the emergence of coronavirus cases. As far as cricket is concerned, a number of players, who took part in the IPL 2021, will be playing in the PSL and it goes without saying, all eyes will be on them. In the article, let’s take a look at 5 IPL stars to watch out for in PSL 2021: 1. Faf du Plessis Faf du Plessis. ( Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Faf du Plessis didn’t have the best of outings in the first leg of the PSL. The former South Africa skipper managed only 71 runs from three games at an average and strike rate of 23.66 and 131.48 respectively. His top score of 37 off 26 balls with four fours and one six came against the Peshawar Zalmi. However, he was on top of his form in the 2021 IPL, playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). When the tournament was suspended, Faf was their leading run-scorer by a country mile. The veteran scored 320 runs from seven matches at an average and strike rate of 64 and 145.45 respectively. Though he got a duck, he made up for it with four half-centuries and a top score of an unbeaten 95. Quetta Gladiators would be now be hoping for him to carry forward his form in the PSL. 2. Rashid Khan Rashid Khan. (Photo Source: Instagram) Rashid Khan played for the Lahore Qalandars in the first leg of the PSL, but he had to leave the team after only two matches as he was set to represent Afghanistan. In those games, he made sure of making an impact, both with bat and ball. Though he got only one wicket, he was the most frugal bowler for the Sohail Akhtar-led Qalandars as he conceded runs at a tender economy rate of 5.50. Moreover, he played a handy knock of 27* off 15 balls against the Zalmi and took his team to a comprehensive four-wicket victory. As far as his IPL 2021 exploits are concerned, he was on top of his game. In seven matches for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), he picked up 10 wickets. Moreover, the leg-spinner was also the most economical bowler for the Orange Army with an economy rate of 6.14. 3. Chris Lynn Chris Lynn. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Chris Lynn came into the 2021 PSL on the back of some stupendous shows for the Brisbane Heat in the 2020-21 Big Bash League (BBL). However, he failed to replicate the same in the PSL as he managed 34 runs in four games for Multan Sultans at a disastrous average of 8.50. The Queensland-born batter made amends to some extent after he notched 32 runs off 14 balls against the Karachi Kings. Lynn hasn’t had luck going in his favour in the IPL as well. After warming the bench for the entire season in 2020, he made his debut for the Mumbai Indians (MI). In the first game of IPL 2021 against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) he scored 49 runs at a strike rate of 140. However, after wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock completed his quarantine period, Lynn had to go back to the benches. 4. Imran Tahir Imran Tahir. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Imran Tahir, the veteran South Africa leg-spinner, hasn’t gotten much chance of late to show his prowess. In the 2021 PSL, he got to play only a solitary match against the Gladiators where he picked up the wickets of both the openers- Saim Ayub and Usman Khan. In the spin-bowling department, Mohammad Rizwan’s Sultans mostly preferred leggie Usman Qadir and the veteran Shahid Afridi. In the 2021 IPL as well, he didn’t have a great time mostly because he had to sit out. The Lahore-born Tahir played only one match against Virat Kohli’s RCB where he picked up two wickets, conceding only 16 runs in his four overs. But then, MS Dhoni’s CSK preferred only Ravindra Jadeja as their main spinner. It remains to be seen if he gets enough chances in the second leg of the PSL. 5. Mohammad Nabi Mohammad Nabi. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Mohammad Nabi had an impressive campaign for the Kings, captained by Imad Wasim, in PSL 2021. He turned out to be the fulcrum of their middle-order as he scored 174 runs at an average and strike rate of 58 and 179.38 respectively. His highest score of 67 off 35 came against the Zalmi when the Kings were chasing a daunting target of 189. Nabi’s knock was laced with eight fours and four sixes. With the ball, he was the second least expensive bowler for the Kings with an economy rate of 7.63, albeit he could only pick up one wicket. In the 2021 IPL, he got a chance in only two matches in which he couldn’t make much of an impact. Nabi scored only 31 runs with a top score of 17 and picked up two wickets. The Kings would want him to fire on all cylinders in the second leg of the PSL.
