The role of a coach in International cricket is still pretty ill-defined as no one has precisely worked out what the possible job role could. Helping the cricketers get over their little technical glitches, managing the environment in a dressing room, decision making off the field, a lot of people are still confused as to what attributes a good Head Coach should constitute.

The person beholding this role should be versatile enough to tackle any intricate situation in the dressing room since most of his role is restricted to off-the-field stuff. Keeping the players motivated, ensuring there are no personal issues between players if at all there are, he should be handling such situations to ensure the team doesn’t get affected.

There are some personalities in the fraternity who have done pretty well despite not having a precise job description as a coach. The current Indian setup would need a new coach with Ravi Shastri‘s contract expiring after the World Cup. There is a good chance he will continue in the position, but if he doesn’t these five legendary names in world cricket stand a great chance of winning the coveted job.

1. Tom Moody

Going by track record, Tom Moody perhaps is the biggest contender to win the Indian coaching duties. Tom Moody has been with the Sunrisers Hyderabad as the head coach right from their first season in 2013 and the team reached the playoffs four times in six seasons (2019 not included), winning the tournament once in 2016. He applied for the head coach position twice previously but lost the race to Anil Kumble and Ravi Shastri.

The Australian formed a great partnership with VVS Laxman and Muttiah Muralitharan, which saw the Orange Army reach great heights in the tournament. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rashid Khan, Siddarth Kaul, and many others developed greatly during his tenure. He certainly has a strong enough CV to win any coaching job in the world.
