5 Players who could be axed after World Cup 2019

Performance and Endurance are the key factors for survival in modern day cricket. While endurance keeps a player going, consistent performance keeps you relevant. Even if one lacks a bit on the fitness scale, he can still stay in hunt with strong performances. Aaron Finch being the best example for the same. But, when a player fails to perform repeatedly in a highly competitive environment, he could well be shown the door. Here is a list of 5 players who might face the axe post this World Cup 1. Darren Bravo Darren Bravo. (Photo by Gareth Copley/Getty Images) Darren Bravo has been disappointing by displaying a string of shoddy performances in a quite some time now. His recent scores in his last 7 matches read 19 (15), 0 (4), 9 (7), 1 (4), 17 (25), 6 (13), 3* (3). He was once considered as the next Brian Lara from the Windies cricketing fraternity. Bravo has the potential, but it was very rare to see his top-notch performances and most of the time he failed to stand up to the billings. With young crop — Nicholas Pooran and Shimron Hetmyer — stepping up to the situations and proving their prowess, is it time for Bravo pass on the baton to the latest Caribbean talents? Well, that would be in good fortunes for the Windies unit and hence Bravo could well be sidelined in the near future. 2. David Miller Andile Phehlukwayo. (Photo by Dan Mullan/Getty Images) South African duo of David Miller and Jean-Paul Duminy have hit a new low with their deprived performances in this World Cup and ahead of the mega event as well. The failure of these players, who also form the team’s middle order, has been the major reason for South Africa’s disastrous World Cup campaign. Miller has managed to score only 136 runs in this World Cup. But what makes it worse is the fact that all his knocks have come at a strike rate of less than 100. He struggled to get going and restricted his side’s momentum, which eventually led to their downfall. 3. Hassan Ali Hasan Ali. (Photo Source: Twitter) Apart from Mohammad Amir, no other Pakistani pacer has looked impressive. Their bowlers, especially Hassan Ali, have been inconsistent with their lengths. This is also the reason why Pakistan find themselves in the bottom half of the table this World Cup. Here is a list of Hassan Ali’s economy rates in this World Cup. 9.8 (vs WI), 6.6 (vs ENG), 6.7 (vs AUS), 9.3 (vs IND). Apart from being expensive, he has failed to pick wickets as well. In his last 8 games, he has managed only 5 wickets. So he could well make way for youngsters Shaheen Afridi or Mohammad Hasnain. 4. James Vince James Vince. (Photo by Visionhaus/Getty Images) James Vince was called up to this English side as a backup opener. He hasn’t been able to convert his starts into big totals. He failed to score a single 50+ score on decent batting surfaces in the ODI series vs PAK and hasn’t delivered in this World Cup as well. England’s regular opening pair of Roy-Bairstow has looked good and it looks unlikely that Vince might get another game. England also has a good replacement option in Alex Hales. As a result, Vince is set to make way for a fit Jason Roy and may well miss the upcoming matches. 5. Kane Richardson Kane Richardson (Photo Source: Twitter) Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins form the core of the Aussie bowling unit. Zampa/Lyon and Glenn Maxwell give them 10-13 overs of spin. In addition to that, Marcus Stoinis and Nathan Coulter-Nile serve as good all-rounders. So, Kane Richardson’s inclusion as a pacer doesn’t really bring anything significant to this Aussie side which already looks settled. The addition of Jason Behrendorff gives them some variation and swing up front. So in all likelihood, Kane looks set to be dropped post this World Cup. ~Written by Ameya Thakur
