5 Players who deserve a chance at number 7 in the Indian ODI team: Ravindra Jadeja the Indian all rounder has two first class triple century against his name, is a left-arm spinner who can bowl the stump to stump line quite consistently and a brilliant fielder with awesome athleticism. He was identified by legendary Shane Warne during his stint with the Rajasthan Royals as someone with some serious talent and temperament capable of donning the responsibility of a dependable all rounder for the Indian side. He has been the main stay all rounder of the Indian side for quite a few years. But of late, his performances have dipped markedly and the recent humiliating series loss against Bangladesh probably signals that its time the management looks beyond him and checks for other more viable options in the ranks. There was never any doubt over his talent, but it is the temperament and his inconsistency that made everyone skeptical about his place in the team. He proved to be a nostrum, showing moments of brilliance, but never that consistent all-rounder that India was looking for good enough to sustain his prowess in the elite league. Afflicted by a back injury which subsequently led to his loss of form, he lost his place in the Indian ODI and the test side in 2009. After that he made several attempts to come back to the Indian side and did so in 2012 but once again his never ending fitness issues prevented him from cementing his place in the side. He was picked by the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2015 on the back of some noteworthy performances in the Ranji Trophy for Baroda, with wickets coming for him off classic swing bowlers deliveries, and his bat shining on to win games for Baroda as well, but he didn’t play a single game for CSK this IPL. Now that Ravindra Jadeja is likely to lose his place in the side, it is a propitious opportunity to make a stellar comeback to the side and cement his place once again. 3. Yusuf Pathan: Yusuf Pathan. His power hitting and useful off spin bowling earned him a place in the Indian team in 2008. He has to his name one of the fastest IPL hundreds, a stat that reflects how portentous he can be with the bat. Yusuf had one of his finest outings at the IPL this season, he not only scored runs, but more importantly anchored the KKR innings. Most of his 312 have come of major utility for the team and he looked a changed batsman this season, who waited for the opportunity and time to go for the kill, and rarely threw it away; instead played the dual role of an anchor and a finisher for KKR. With his off-spins also worth a consideration Yusuf can fill in the shoes of Ravindra Jadeja or may well better his performances. 4. Rishi Dhawan: Rishi Dhawan. Dhawan can also be seen as the seam bowling all-rounder skipper Dhoni and the team has been looking for, someone who can not only roll out overs but pick wickets and the 192 wickets that he has in First Class cricket in 43 games compliment the call pretty well and the 1858 runs at an average of 40 are worth the consideration as well. With his right arm medium fast bowling he has the ability to pick wickets at regularly and that makes him a genuine all-rounder. 5. Hardik Pandya: Hardik Pandya. (Photo Source: BCCI) As Mumbai Indians head coach Ricky Ponting went through the footage of more than 50 shortlisted cricketers ahead of the IPL player auction in February, he was impressed by Hardik Pandya’s batting, who was subsequently bought by the franchise at base price. It proved to be a masterstroke by Ricky Ponting, as the shy and grounded all rounder from Baroda announced himself on the big platform with match winning performances in the IPL season. He was responsible for a crucial win in the league stages against CSK when he plundered 3 sixes in a single over off Pawan Negi. A useful pace bowler who can clocks close to the 140 kmph mark and an attacking batsman, with the hunger to finish the game for his team, Pandya may prove to be one of IPL’s top finds if given a chance in the Indian team.
