If there is one name that has stood out in the first two weeks of IPL 2022, then it has to be “Dinesh Karthik”. The veteran Indian wicketkeeper batter can do no wrong at the moment, scoring 97 runs in four outings, at a strike rate of 210.86. Surprisingly, Karthik is yet to be dismissed in the tournament so far and has simply been in sublime touch.

He scored an eventful knock of 44 runs off just 23 balls against the Rajasthan Royals to help his side past the finishing line. What attracted attention was, that the 36-year-old took a minimum risk and capitalized on the gaps to acquire the runs. Having someone like Dinesh Karthik in the lower-middle order allows the likes of Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell, and Virat Kohli to play their natural game.

Last season, he managed to score just 223 runs in 17 matches at an average of 22.30. There were even calls for him to be dropped from the KKR’s playing XI after he handed over the captaincy to Eoin Morgan. However, Dinesh Karthik has answered his critics in style this season and will hope to continue with his match-winning performances with the bat as RCB chase their maiden IPL title.
