5 Players who were auctioned in IPL 2008 and will again go under the hammer ahead of 2022 mega auction
The IPL 2022 mega auction is expected to take place in the initial days of January.
With the inclusion of two new teams in Ahmedabad and Lucknow, the Indian Premier League is anticipated to boost itself in 2022. The cash-rich league has served as a breeding ground for the country’s emerging potential talents. Many young bright players have rubbed shoulders with seasoned international boys and developed into T20 format’s absolute guns. Many seasoned players have also redeemed themselves in the league and showcased their ability in one of the world’s most difficult tournaments.
With the IPL mega auction approaching in 2022, many players have been released from their respective franchises. The list also includes some players who have been playing since the inaugural edition of the IPL. Here, we have a look at the
5 players from 2008 who will be up for mega auction in IPL 2022
1. Suresh Raina
The man with the title of “Mr. IPL” will finally go under the hammer in IPL 2022 mega auction. The franchise has finally opted to leave Raina after serving CSK since its inception. He didn’t have a productive season in 2021, and he was injured in the second half of the competition.
With 5528 runs, the southpaw is now the fourth-highest run-scorer in the IPL. He has a long list of match-winning innings under his belt for CSK, and he has played a pivotal role in many of their title runs. When CSK was banned for two years due to a match-fixing controversy, he captained Gujarat Lions. His whirlwind innings of 87(25) against Kings XI Punjab(now Punjab Kings) in the 2014 playoffs will be remembered as one of the greatest knocks in T20 cricket albeit in a loss.
Raina is a hard-hitting middle-order batter who has the ability to turn a game around with his match-winning prowess. He still has the potential to help his team win games, and it will be intriguing to see whether teams pursue him in the mega auctions.
