5 Possible Replacements for Mitchell Starc in IPL 2018
In what is sure to be a big blow for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Starc has been ruled out of the IPL owing to a 'tibial bone stress' in his right leg.
5. Jason Holder
Last but not the least, comes the mighty Caribbean speedster, Jason Holder. He’s had plenty of experience in T20 leagues such as the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and especially the IPL, where he has participated in three franchises already, namely, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)! Tall and powerful, Holder is a classic example of West Indian fast bowlers, a breed that boasts of names like Courtney Walsh, Malcolm Marshall, Joel Garner and Michael Holding.
In the 11 IPL matches that Holder has played, he’s had a seemingly lean patch with only 5 wickets to his name. However, his performance in the limited overs format for West Indies is a far more positive picture, where he has 106 ODI scalps and 7 T20 dismissals to his credit. In addition to his pace bowling abilities, the inclusion of Holder will also give KKR an extra batting option down the order as the 26-year-old is known to be able to swing his bat with considerable force in the later stages of the match, if and when required.
So, all is not lost for KKR. In fact, it might just turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the Dinesh Karthik-led side, if they’re able to make a judicious choice in naming a replacement for the injured Mitchell Starc and who knows, this very new inclusion might just tip the scales in their favor!
