5 Reasons Why India lost the ODI series to Bangladesh: After a superb run in the World Cup, winning 7 of their 8 matches, the Indian team suffered a dreadful setback in the bilateral series against Bangladesh, losing two matches on a trot, thereby losing the series without posing tokens of threat to the Bangladeshis. There have been a number of wrong doings in the series by the Men in Blue and they had to pay severe price for the same. Starting from bowling to batting, India were simply outplayed and outnumbered by this young, a rejuvenated, regrouped Bangladesh unit in all the aspects and they did managed to win quite comprehensively against the World Cup semi finalists on both the matches. The middle order, in the likes of Kohli, Dhoni, Rahane, Rayudu and Raina did not manage to come good for the team and India lacked a decent partnership from the middle order. Despite the opening partnership contributed 95 runs in the first ODI, India went to lose 5 wickets for the score of just 128 runs on the board in the match. Also, in the second ODI, they were bundled with 193 runs on the board, owing to a batting failure from the middle order batsmen as a whole. Rayudu was selected as a replacement for Rahane in the second ODI but he managed to score a duck in the match. (Photo Source: BCCI) On a number of times in the series, MS Dhoni missed out some tricks by sticking to a defensive ploy in his field placements and bowling changes. An instance of the same is Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, who was allowed to bowl 5 overs in the power-play overs of the Bangladeshi innings in the second match. India needed to strike wickets and Bhuvaneshwar did not find the least of his rhythm. Still the skipper struck to the mindsets and restrained to replace him with a spinner in the first 10 overs. Also, in the first ODI, Dhoni had made field setups in order to resist the scoring rate. Little attacking measures to strike wickets were seen. Again, Mohit Sharma was given the ball for 5 overs despite his lack of accuracy in line and length in the first ODI. 4. Kohli was dismissed while he tried to cut a wide ball on the first ODI. Rahane got out as he tried to chip a ball over the extra cover region. Undoubtedly, the batsmen failed to show maturity throughout the series as a result of which there were batting collapses resulting in dreadful consequences. 5. Lack of a Quality All-Rounder: Ravindra Jadeja. He was least effective with the ball in both the matches. Axar Patel was a part of the XI in the second ODI but even he failed to make a commanding impact to the game. And, India genuinely felt the lack of a match-winning all-rounder. It is high time now that the selection committee have to act smart to judge Jadeja’s place in the squad.
